Salome and John the Baptist

Listening to Strauss’ ‘Salome’. John the Baptist finally emerges from his tomb like cell and begins singing. The moment he begins asking about Jesus, the music turns to french horns (and I assume other low brass?) playing the most regal, kingly horn choral ever. Just brilliant, loved this clear ‘king of kings’ like music, right? Its amazing, Strauss thought of that. So as the music progresses, we get a big amen and then a moment later the music sours. Its just brilliant. If I can’t find a clip of this moment, I’ll add it.

Half Life

Photographs taken of actors preparing for the stage by Simon Annand for his book The Half which is the half hour before the first actors are due on stage (i.e. 35 minutes before the show begins). All actors must be in their dressing rooms by the Half. Traditionally the audience is allowed into the auditorium at that point.
